Network Shares No Longer Show-Up - Ubuntu 16.04

It appears that a recent upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 may have zapped the display of network shares. The other computers on the home network do not show-up. I suspect the issue is associated with Samba. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I've been waiting to see whether a new update would resolve this issue. Nothing so far.

you gave no usable info. http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-q...html#beprecise
In samba you can specify version, probably that helps.

By show up do you mean in the file browser under networks?

What operating systems run on these other computers?

Thanks for responding. I was not actually looking for a solution. I was simply wondering if others were experiencing this issue.

Well breaking news. Just after posting this response, I accessed the "network tab" on my file browser on the two Ubuntu computers and the networks shares showed-up! Unfortunately, that was short-lived. I rebooted the computers as a test and they went back to not showing the network shares once again from the "network tab" on the file browser. Now I am even more confused. Given the apparent off/on/off again nature of this problem, its going to be difficult to figure out.

Facts are in short supply, as I have not yet identified a "suspect" for reporting a possible bug. After the momentary flash of "success", the network shares disappeared. Nothing worse that an intermittent problem.

I'm back to thinking that this could be a router issue. I had rebooted the router a couple of time, but nothing changed. I may try a factory reset on the router, when there is less network traffic.

I have three computers, two running Ubuntu 16.04 and one Lubuntu 18.04. Just after posting this response, I re-tried my file browsers on the Ubuntu computers and surprisingly the network shares showed-up. But then I rebooted the computers and the network shares once again disappeared. I'm even more stumped as to what the problem could be. Especially as there have been no software updates in the last couple of days.

Have you verified that smbd/nmbd is still running on each computer?

You can manually check to see if you can access the shares on each computer via the smbclient utility. It typically isn't installed by default.
smbclient -L IP_address

I'll have to check that option out.

The issue appears to be with my routers firmware. I went back to the prior firmware version, shut everything down, and rebooted. I can now see the network shares once again. Time to submit a bug report to ASUS. I hope that I won't be editing and re-editing this post as I did with the other ones. .

My Lubuntu computer still has issues related to broken packages related to networking, but that is not up for discussion yet on this forum.

michaelk, I did use the smbclient utility on one computer and everything looked OK.

There may have been an undisclosed bug in SAMBA.

Recently, I noticed that clicking on the network tab started working "better". The network shares popped-up immediately. I went ahead and installed the routers latest firmware which had been "failing", and preliminarily it worked flawlessly. Of course time will tell if the problem is truly fixed. For now, I will assume that a recent change to the Samba program resolved this issue.
