Network icon in Indicator plugin constantly giving messages - Xubuntu 12.04

After upgrading to Xubuntu 12.04 the Network icon on the Indicator plugin in "xfce4-panel 4.8.6" displays a box with "Wired network disconnected" every few minutes.

I am connected via WiFi, not eth0, so the message is pointless and irritating, especially as it obscures part of the screen.

I can presumably delete the eth0 network connection but this seems a bit extreme, especially as the same prolem did not occur before 12.04.

Has anyone else noticed a similar problem?

12.04, network, xubuntu
