Question network error:Failed to retrieve share list from server

Just got ubuntu 11.04. Have resisted because did not want to take time to setup. Perhaps I should have waited longer.:-) Trying to setup network and get the following message when try and open a computer on my new network of two Ubuntu 11.04 and one Win Vista computers. "Failed to retrieve share list from server" I have done a full day of searches online and can find no answer/fix. Does anyone have clue how to fix this?

What happens if you run this command?

Code:
sudo smbtree
If nothing happens, try this:

Code:
sudo apt-get -y install samba-client
Then try the first command again.

WORKGROUP

\\SHEILA\shiela
\\SHEILA\IPC$ IPC Service (Sheila server (Samba, Ubuntu))
\\SHEILA\print$ Printer Drivers
\\ROUTER Belkin Router
Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but 'client lanman auth' is disabled
failed tcon_X with NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

I also am getting this error and when I test SAMBA, this is the result:

WORKGROUP \\PLAYBOOK-728E Samba (localhost)

cli_start_connection: failed to connect to PLAYBOOK-728E<20> (0.0.0.0). Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL

Linux can see the Playbook tablet, but it still won't connect, and I don't have a lot of options yet, to do things on the tablet.

If I need to give authorisation, it doesn't get that far.

I guess nobody knows why this happens or how to fix it, so far every thread I've read seams to dead end just about here.

Install Mint 12, what ever was the problem in previous versions have been fixed. I've installed it on two systems and both access my Windows network flawlessly.

What a terrible thing to suggest.

I have nothing against Mint at all but it makes more sense to remove the MS products.

I am using LinuxMint Debian, in this case today, and get the same error I get when using Fedora and trying to access my NAS box, so it is a network configuration error.

"Unable to mount location" because it can't find the server list.

Linux can "see" the Playbook on the network (the PB's icon is there), but it just can't access it yet.

Now, I'm having a devil of a time trying to fix the Fedora install to work for the exact same reason, so if anyone knows how to deal with this error, I'd love to hear more, for both set-ups.

As I posted previously, I have seen this question posted on a couple of different Linux forums and no one has provided an answer, in fact in most cases, no one responded. What perplexes me, (I don't know enough about Network Protocols) is the Network function appears to work fine out of the box on a Live DVD but won't work when installed on the HD. If someone knows what gets intalled when the Live DVD boots, that isn't included in the permanent install on HD it might pinpoint the problem.
