need help setting up sendmail

I am trying to set sendmail up so I can get mail off my laptop from fail2ban. I want it to send mail to my phone or internet account in case someone is trying to hack into my LT while I am online.

1 apt-get install mailx
2. apt-get install sendmail

Currently unmodified config files.

I can now get mail from root to a local user account on the laptop.

I am configuring this now on the laptop to play with it as I am going to load Ubuntu on a home system shortly and want email to go off that to my internet account etc.

Have you read any books or articles yet? How many hours have you spent learning sendmail?
