Hi - i've not had sound since forever now and i think its about time i try and sort something, for some unknown reasons to me i have no sound what so ever, think its something to do with the fact this laptop was made by aliens o.O , anyway ive come to the conclusion that by simply waiting for the kernel to work i could be here for a long time so i looked on the via website and found a driver for my soundcard - Via8237 , thats what ubuntu thinks it is anyway from the device manager and the little volume control on the from of my lappy works so it cant be all bad as i get a volume meter on the screen, just sadly no sound.
the driver is here (
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...0&SubCatID=104 ,bottom one, 2.3-1 ) as an RPM src thingy (sob...wtf...omg) and as you can most likely tell i have no idea what to do from here. i extracted it and read the brief instructions and then nothing, if anyone knows how to go about this and has 10 minutes to help me out then i promise if i win the lottery you'll get a present.
thanks
