my keyboard/trackpad aren't working on acer chromebook 14

I did not install with crouton, I flashed seabios then booted from usb and installed 14.04 Ubuntu from their site. The keyboard works into the advanced settings when I hold the shift key. But, when I fully load in they are unresponsive savor the power. Now I've grabbed every kernel that has been thrown on the web, updated, dedated, even reinstalled to upgrade back to 16.4 LTS. Then I did again.

If there is any direction that I could be pointed in would be greatly appreciated! :)

Acer Chromebook 14 - CB3-431, Ubuntu 16.

A chromebook has a PS/2 port? An 8042?

I just looked: it doesn't. It seems like you flashed the wrong BIOS.

Post output of

Code:

uname -a
and

Code:

dmesg | tail
I seabiosed my Acer C710 Chromebook and Run AntiX 17 64 bit on mine with a version 4 kernel. Everything works on mine. But I am AntiX savvy.

Maybe this will serve your needs better since you like Ubuntu? It is Ubuntu based.

https://galliumos.org/

Timothy Miller 05-14-2018 05:12 PM

1. Mainline linux doesn't have audio or touchpad drivers necessarily for Chromebooks. Does for some, not all.

2. Full rom firmware offers better compatiblity

3. GalliumOS that rokytnji linked to is based on Ubuntu but has the ChromeOS touchpad and sound drivers patched onto the kernel, for absolutely perfect Chromebook functionality if it's supported (is that Chromebook Braswell, if so, it's supported).

Nimkora 05-14-2018 05:40 PM

Thank you for the help, rokytnji. I have looked at galliumos. It was appealing to just have it all ready for me but, That's not me. I'm in school for CS SoftEng and wanted to start understanding something other than windows. I like tearing through things and understanding, may have questions though.

Thank you Timothy, it is braswell and on the page I downloaded the seabois from said it wasn't compatible with full rom.

rokytnji 05-14-2018 06:25 PM

Yeah. I went with full rom on mine. But my Acer is older than yours.

Looks like you should try out maybe a

while keeping your booting kernel for safe keeping in case it don't boot up.

You can get it from

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

If it does not boot. Remove it booting into your working kernel. Update grub afterward of course.
Then go up from the list one by one

till it does boot and hopefully things improve. That is best I can suggest for poke and hope fixes.

Edit> I usually install headers and images when I do as I just suggested. For myself.
You might not need the headers. Since I don't know your user habits.

2nd edit. What version of Ubuntu are you on right now?

Code:

lsb_release -a
I ask because more current libs help with more current kernel installs.
During what I suggest that you do. First I do a

Code:

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
Then reboot after that.

in root terminal before I install newer kernels.

Don't know where you read it, but they're wrong.

Nimkora 05-14-2018 11:18 PM

well, now I'm glad you told me that. again. :) Maybe I misunderstood.

https://johnlewis.ie/custom-chromebo.../rom-download/

I didn't even know about Mrchromebox.

Nimkora 05-16-2018 09:35 PM

Update, I changed to

~sudo uname -a

Linux Syfilis 4.13.0-41-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 2 13:38:30 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux~

~lsb_release -a

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 17.10
Release: 17.10
Codename: artful

but my sound doesn't work now.

It's just showing that the sound card is a "Dummy Output" I've tried anything from removing the entire alsa-base and alsa-utils and reloading, purging them, even went as far as trying to use oss.

I went into terminal and fine tuned the touch pad and keyboard is great.

I'm sorry for the late response. Thank you guys!
