NO

Use
Software Center or Synaptic to install it

or

#sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get install mplayer

Why are you trying to compile it from source?

Add medibuntu to your repos if reqd

Always follow the package manager of your Linux distro.

Sources are used to compile in special/custom ways or when a binary is not available.

If you must go outside of the official Ubuntu repositories for a newer version of MPlayer, there are several PPA repos for MPlayer, which you can search for and add to your sources from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas
I have never used any unofficial PPA repos for MPlayer. Use them at your own risk.
The stock MPlayer that is included with Ubuntu has always worked well enough for me.
