Hello Gentlemen/Women
I have "ninja-installed" Ubuntu 6.06 on my sisters old (AMD 800Mhz) machine after I got tired of cleaning Windows spyware/virus on it. (apparently the machine sent spam, had a goddamned SMTPserver on port 25 etc.. :/)
Mostly shes happy with this Linux release, things works like the use to in windows, most things work etc, so
cool beans..
But..there´s one big problem, I just cant get the damned .mp3 files to start working..(.ogg .wav etc works good)
I understand that this is due to a lack of a codec, but I cant find the codec anywhere to install. (Well, actually I found the lame codec on sourceforge but couldnt install it, with the ./configure Make thinga-majigs it kept saying it couldnt find a C compiler in the $PATH etc..)
CHecked on the ubuntuguide.org and it mentions to update/change repositories and then install a lot of codecs, but that didnt work either, says something about that the packages I try to isntall is "missing or outdated" and nothing is installed.
Dont know if I should try the newer 7.04 version instead, but Im a bit worried that the old machine, an 800Mhz AMD Athlon, 768Mb SDRAM, 32mb Geforce2, wont run the newer versions all that good(?)
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was: anyone have an idea on how to fix so that I can run .mp3 files on 6.06?
