MP3 tags in Nautilus?

Hey all,

Quick question for anyone with an answer...

Ya know how in WinDoze, when you open a folder that has mp3's in it, you can have it show ID3-specific data in the columns? Like Track #, Year, Artist, Genre, etc?

How can I add that functionality in Nautilus *Using Dapper Drake*?

Any help would be appreciated...thanks!!

You can't in Gnome.

If you're using KDE, you can go to View > View Mode > Info List Mode.

damn, damn, damn! But I like Gnome though...this sucks!

Gnome sacrifices extra functionality in order to gain simplicity. KDE is the other way around.

Well, simplicity is fine, elegance is even better (that's why I like GNOME), but I thought there should be plug-in interfaces for nautilus - which, apparently, don't exist...

@robbbert...I Totally agree!! Is there a WM out there that has both?

robbbert 06-30-2006 02:56 PM

What about Rhythmbox? Or AmaroK (if you're not afraid of eye cancer ;))? Or, using Konqueror (with Ubuntu) after all?

TruANTOlogy 06-30-2006 03:03 PM

I mean, is there a WM (Windows Manager) that combines the ease of Gnome, with the extras of KDE?

No, there isn't.

But you can use KDE apps in Gnome (they will appear ugly, but they'll work).

If you want additional information on MP3's while running Nautilus, why not write a Nautilus script that will spawn another window with an application running it that shows you what you need. Many have added features to Nautilus in that fashion.

TruANTOlogy 07-01-2006 09:37 PM

I would, but I have no idea on how to write scripts in anything but M$ Batch command-line scripts.
My reasoning for wanting id3 tags in nautilus is so I can sort by "Track Number" from within Nautilus so I can drag mp3's into my media player in track order. Anyone know a solution?

Thanks,
TruANT
