Mozilla Firefox freezes with multiple tabs

I'm still having trouble with the computer freezing if I try to close Mozilla-Firefox with multiple tabs open. (and I often forget to close them individually)

Is there a solution to this?

I have the newest Ubuntu, and update regularly.

Assuming it is not an Ubuntu-specific problem, I'd suggest that it is most likely due to an incompatible or corrupted extension (addon).

Have you tried disabling all extensions, or starting Firefox in safe-mode, and see if the problem persists or goes away?

If at some point in the past, you updated from a very old firefox to a much newer one, it could be due to something in your profile too. As a test, you could make a brand new profile, and restart firefox from the command-line with a -P option, to use a new profile, and see if that solves the problem too.

I'd run memtest first and if that's OK then sudo shutdown -Fr now to force a disk check on reboot

EDIT: If it's just firefox you should be able to xkill it and if your X session gets hosed you should be able to ctrl-alt-bksp out, though Ubuntu disables that key sequence by default -- don't remember at the moment how I re-enabled it but it's a handy feature IMHO.

Well I disabled all add-ons, but the problem persists. It is annoying.
It doesn't happen with Konqueror.

Any more tips??
Ubuntu checks the disk on a regular basis. I have never had any bad reports from chkdsk.

You could back up your bookmarks and passwords, delete "/home/username/.firefox" and reinstall firefox?

BTW you can't kill the process: the whole computer is frozen, and the screen is a mess, totally, bits of windows everywhere, nothing working!
