moving an Ubuntu partition

Hi,

I have a partition issue, I was using a dual boot with Win XP and Ubuntu.
Now that I feel I can complete the switch ti Ubuntu fully I would like some help rearanging my partitions.

This is my setup right now:

Quote:
/dev/sda1 * 1 6629 53247411 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 6630 19457 103040910 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 6630 6878 2000061 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6 6879 19457 101040786 83 Linux
What I want now is to completely remove my NTFS partition and repartition the drive to something like this:
Quote:
/ 10 Gb ext3
/home 145 Gb ext3
Swap 2 Gb
From what I've been reading so far 10Gb root is enough, correct me if Im wrong. And Im not really sure on how much swap I really need I have 3Gb of RAM.

What I've done so far is a complete rsync of the entire Ubuntu.
Is there a tool I can use to partition and edit grub at the same time?

For the swap partition 1Gb is a good size.
To partition your drive parted magic or gparted.

http://partedmagic.com/
http://gparted.sourceforge.net

To edit your grub menu.lst file gedit is good.
In the terminal

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

and edit your menu.lst

As far as using one program to do it all, use your live CD of ubuntu.

1GB swap is enough unless you wish to use hibernate. In that case swap needs to be the size of your installed memory.

Tnx for your quick replyes!

I forgot to mention that I also plan to move the swap partition. Does that change things?
The swap is now the first linux partion, right after the NTFS partition, I want to move it to the last partition.

Swap doesn't have to be the 1st patition, last is OK.
