mounting/ detecting a drive on my sil 3112A raid card.

I'm trying to install ubuntu feisty on my 250GB hdd but for some reason ubuntu doesn't see it. It detects the controller when I do a 'lspci' but neither gparted nor the ubiguity sees it. it doesn't show up either when I do a 'fdisk -l'. Any suggestions?

P.S. I'm not doing any raid.

The module for it is in the kernel source but it may not be an option as far as loaded modules during an install.

Is this controller part of the motherboard?
If so you may be able to set it to say Legacy IDE or Pata mode. Then this should allow you to install. Once installed reset the bios back to default Sata mode and boot up.

Not a Ubuntu user so not sure what is comon in the kernel it installs. Worst comes to worst you will need to recompile the kernel to add the support for this controller. Lots of post of kernel compile for 2.6 kernels.

I did a lsmod and sata_sil shows up as a module. The sata is part of the motherboard powered by a separate bios chip. It doesn't have a legacy setting :(.

hmmmm... Must be an issue with feisty. edgy sees it just fine. I'll see if I can post a bug.

thanks

It is hard to say why other than it is not loaded with that version of the distro. I say do like you say and contact them for a bug report.
