Mounted Drives

Yeah, so I just got Ubuntu back and I have a question. I had Ubuntu and it never did this before but now it does: when Ubuntu boots, it shows my Windows partitions mounted on my desktop, which are pretty much useless when I'm working with Linux. How can I stop this from happening?

The Ubuntu is installed on your Hard Disk, right? Not using the Live CD?
OK, locate the file /etc/fstab, and on the line(s) where there is an NTFS device, add the word ',noauto' to the options for mounting the device.
Alternately, you might be able in your desktop configuration settings, to specify which devices are displayed on the desktop, but I dont knoow if you can specify as to which devices PER FILESYSTEM are displayed.
Hope this helps you!

This is a "FYI" the reason that happens, is b/c when you installed ubuntu you probably let everything as i will call it 'auto configure" in other words decide where to mount what. That is the only reason my Windows partitions have ever self mounted. I did not like it either, seemed to be a waste of desktop space. So when I install Ubuntu, i always configure what i can manually. (This is just a thought ) I believe your question has been answered above. You will probably need to be root to edit fstab, so "sudo gedit /etc/fstab" and if you cannot save changes, you can get root access, just follow the instructions on this link http://fab.cba.mit.edu/central/?q=fo...ations_help/87 what this will do is give you access to a user account "root" and the passwd you configure so you can edit whatever you want. Good Luck,
