Missing program menus list after upgrade to 8.10

After automatically upgrade online from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 suddenly, oop, the menu icon on the upper left corner which when click shows all installed program, is missing. Can anybody tell me how to restore? I have try to right click and arrange the menu but nothing happened.

You mean you selected "Add to Panel"? Are you sure that gnome applets is installed?
