Microphone not working on dapper

When using the microphone on dapper if it's level is low it's really quiet but if I increase the level it's super distorted. There is no in between setting that works.

It works fine in windows 2000.

What can I try to fix it? I want to use viop in linux.

Try to adjust your microphone by running "alsamixer" in a terminal. Configuring my microphone through Gnome/Dapper was worthless, but works fine now.
