Marvell Semiconductor 88E8001 Gigabit Lan PCI Driver

I bought a motherboard from Gigabyte, with AMD 64 (I bought a motherboard from Gigabyte, with AMD 64 (GA-K8NSC-939)

I thought I will use (K)Ubuntu, but to my surprise, Windows x64 Professional, Windows XP, and Kubuntu 64-bit all failed to detect my lan. (in Windows XP I even installed the driver from the CD but it didn't worked. Today I downloaded the latest drivers from www.giga-byte.com to see if those works)

Anyway, both Mandriva 2006 Free (64-bit) and OpenSuSE 10.0 (64-bit) detected my hardware correctly.

I really like the Ubuntu distro and community but SuSE is making efforts in distributing their distro, I like that one better than Mandriva, since they support Open Source much more than Mandriva (seems like a demo, always asking you to join their member club).

I guess this is my good bye to this community, since there is no point of having Ubuntu without Internet

I'll appreciate any help

So do you want help or are you quitting?
I can assure you that card will work. The driver is right in the kernel...

If it works in one distro it will work in all of them. The question is do you want to spend the time and effort to get it working.

I will appreciate help
I tried the new distro Kubuntu Dapper, Flight CD 1 and it worked ok.

However in Mandriva I've been able to install Firefox (32 bit version, since 64-bit plugins don't exist), with Java and Flash plugin.

Dapper detected the network ok, Breezy couldn't detect my lan in the installatin, Dapper detected it right from scratch.

I don't see much benefits right now to switch again distros (after 5 days of using Mandriva), in Mandriva I'm able to boot my existing WinXP partition with VMWare, something that I was able to do with Ubuntu but from one day to another I wasn't able to do.

I really like Ubuntu but I think that Mandriva is more organized in terms of the KDE menu, everything is in it's place, you can edit KDE and Gnome menu at the same time, the control panel is nice...

One reason to switching to Ubuntu again will be if in Mandriva I am forced to pay in order to update my kernel or something like that.

I still use Ubuntu at my house (using it now), but for my 64-bit AMD processor that's the best distro I found.

Why did Breezy didn't detected my card and Dapper did?
