Many zpool import - why?

I have a zfs disk since earlier. And I have a fresh installed Ubuntu 2020.10. Each time I boot my Ubuntu PC, there will be a zpool import of this zfs disk. So my zpool history shows 300 lines. Why is it that Ubuntu will import this zfs disk every time I boot? Do I have to modify my fstab file?

With Solaris, there weere no zpool import unless I manually told Solaris to do so.

Not being a techie, I can only say it is an idiosyncrasy of zfs, which I believe originated with Solaris.

Since it is a fresh install, perhaps replacing ubuntu 20.10 with one I discovered runs better on my older machines -- enchantmentos at Sourceforge. At install, the 'Experimental' option of using zfs is available. I am using it and ran into the same question when saving files to an external HDD.

I like ZFS. Therefore, I suggest enchantmentos. It's a modded xubuntu 20.04

Once you have told it to import the pool it does it on every boot. No clue if there is setting somewhere that changes this but if you want it to only import when you want you have to export it before shutting down. At least that seems to be the way on both my Linux and macOS machines. If I export then for it to be mounted again I have to import once booted. If it was mounted on shutdown or reboot then the import happens automatically on the subsequent boots.
