Manually bring up network interface every time
I have installed ubuntu server 10.04 amd64. The problem is every time I login, there is no internet connection and I have to manually run "sudo ifconfig eth3 up". (eth3 has the cable). What should I do to automate that?

Maybe it helps to add eth3 to the auto-statement in /etc/network/interfaces.

what should I do exactly?

I don't really know, if this works, but I am assuming that.
At first open up /etc/network/interfaces in your favourite text editor, then search for a line that begins with auto and add eth3 add the end, separated with a space from the word before it. Thes save the file, reboot and look if that has worked. |
Are you using the standard Gnome network manager?
|
it is ubuntu server. No gnome...

I recommend wicd. That's a simple but very reliable network manager.
It should be available in your repository. If not: http://wicd.sourceforge.net/ |
