Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hello! I've recently made the switch to Ubuntu and am having an issue with my dual monitor setup.
I'd like for all programs to initially open on my main monitor, but many of them are opening on the monitor they were last used from.
For example, if I open Synaptic and drag it to my external monitor, close it, then open it back up, it will open on my secondary monitor. If I open it, drag it back to my main, close and reopen, it will open on my main again.
I've set my Multi Output Mode in CompizConfig to use the device with the pointer, but only certain programs like Nautilus, Terminal, gedit, etc. obey this setting. Most everything else just goes to wherever it was last located.
Any help with this would be appreciated, thanks!
EDIT:
Actually, if possible, I think I'd prefer if they open on whichever monitor my pointer is on. Again, a few programs work like this and follow the Compiz settings, but most just open wherever they were last located, and some even only open on my main monitor regardless of where they were launched from or last located.
