Mail error; 550 5.1.0 authentication required; in opera browser

I am using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and had set up in my Opera browser one of my email addresses. It is a Pop3 account with incoming port of 110 and outgoing as 25. I called my ISP told them my problem but two things they don't support Opera nor Linux. I have searched and found a program which is suppose to fix the problem but chances are it was for someone using Windex.. Windows not Linux, I left it alone not willing to risk any possible damage. I tried the Opera forums but they were of no help. I am hoping I can find someone here who can assist me?
I have removed the email address from Opera until I am able to set it up so I do not get the error message any more. Here is the Message:

Mail Error
Internal Error [550 5.1.0 Authentication required]

herakles 14,

Hi. Set up your opera without committing into it your "real" email address, just install it as a plain browser. Your email account can better be handled by mozilla-thunderbird (check ubuntu repositories and install it).

Don't bother to call up your ISP's for anything linux or about free software, their company is in the monthly payroll in Redmond (M$) just solely to kick off every *free-software's* a** from out their way :) (just joking).

Come back if you have any problem.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Malekmustaq,
Thanks for the advice on Mozilla Thunderbird but you are talking to one who's been using it for a nubmer of years. Again you were right about calling one's ISP for help with linux. As for Opera, I have had it up and running as a regular browser along with my Mozilla Firefox for awhile now. If a browser offers an email client I'd like to be able to set it up without the occasional error message about this that or authentication required? That is just the weigh I am.
