machine freezes with white screen

Hey Everyone
I just purchased a new 1013 notebook from MSI. I installed Ubuntu with KDE from the cd. I just download the alternative cd because I didn't want to play with the gui install. The machine install fine and "works" for some time. The machine with randomly freeze to a white screen. machine is completely frozen can't ctrl+alt+1 to switch to tty window. I even tried to kill X windows with Ctrl+alt+backspace and get nothing but the white screen.

Any ideas?

have you checked the logs for errors?

I'm a little bit of a newbie at troubleshooting problems in Linux. Where would I find the logs?
