aplay -l shows that my snd-ice1712 PCI sound card driver
is not being loaded. I have /etc/modules list the driver
but it's not doing anything. Thus, I have no sound.
I suspect somehow Lubuntu no longer has the driver.
Where does Lubuntu store the PCI sound card drivers ?
I can not find them in:
/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-23/sound/pci/ice1712/Makefile
or
/lib/modules/3.16.0-33-generic/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/
3 object files here: snd-ice1712.ko, snd-ice1724.ko
snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
The command
alsactl_init is also missing.
But first, I'd like to find out where my sound card driver is.
Any ideas ?
I have a PCI sound card that I use. It is actived in
the BIOS.
Normally, it is card 0
aplay -l should show it as:
card 0 M2496 M Audio Audiophile 24/96
device 0: ICE1712 multi [ ICE1712 multi ]
This PCI sound card uses the envy24control as mixer.
The motherboard has a sound circuit ( AC something ) which
I never use.
I have a multi OS system.
Sound worked fine on Lubuntu. It still works fine on Debian.
But I made the BAD mistake of installing the Konqueror web
browser on Lubuntu. It snuk in the Pulse Audio system which killed my
sound. I used apt-get remove on Konqueror and Synaptic
to remove Pulse Audio. Somehow, something failed.
No sound. I suspect something left from Pulse is
screwing things up somehow.
If necessary, I will whipe Lubuntu and reinstall.
This Pulse Audio is a curse.
./utils_alsa-info.sh
tells me there is a failure
between the Loaded Alsa Modules and the Soundcards
recognized by ALSA. My PCI soundcard is not recognized
by ALSA. That's how it looks to me.

Well, I guess I will never know where Lubuntu hides its
PCI sound card drivers. So I decided to scrap the OS, format
the partition and install Lubuntu 14.10 and see what happens.
It's not a solution, just an act of desperation.
But let's call it a solution just to make it look good.
But let's call it a solution just to make it look good.
But a solution has not been achieved.
After some quick poking around on Google, I found this. If the drivers are not located there, here is the Google link I used, perhaps you might find a page that will help you.
