Lubuntu is slow

Hi,

Tried this on an older PC. And it's slower than Ubuntu or Xubuntu IMO. More hard drive cranking, more stalling. What's supposed to be the motivation for using Lubuntu?

Hi Slurt, properly configured LXDE should be quicker than Gnome. You may be having issues because Lubuntu is still in Beta testing for an official release in October. Try a stable LXDE distro like SliTaz or Debian Lenny + LXDE and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

If you post your hardware specs maybe we can suggest a distro, or a tweak to get Lubuntu working better. It is impossible to give specific advice knowing nothing about your hardware. :)

Apologies if my information is incorrect :) it is taken directly from the homepage at http://lubuntu.net/ and from the 2nd sentence of the article in your link.

But I will confess I haven't tried Lubuntu personally, so maybe I am not the best authority. I stand by my suggestion that SliTaz and/or Debian LXDE are worth a test drive however. :)
