Looks like its loading but nothing shows up.

Ok, So I have installed ubuntu onto a CD and i have tried booting from it. It looks like it is booting but after the boot screen it makes a sound (I Guess like its loging on) and then my screen goes blank. It does not go into stand by mode it just goes black

What do you mean. Like a screen that says what you would like to do?

If you're seeing Ubuntu load and then getting a black screen try this:

Press Ctrl->Alt->F1

You will then be put into a console session. You can logon and then try typing dmesg and look for errors. You may want to type dmesg | more in order to keep it from scrolling off the screen so fast though, or even cat \var\log\messages | more

The errors are your key to discovering the problem.

Ahhh... which ubuntu is this: desktop or alternative? i.e. are you installing ubuntu to your hard drive or are you trying to boot the live version off the cd without installing?

Anyway - I'm talking about something like this:

You mean like this:

???

Check the CD for defects.
Hit F1, F4, and F6 for options - chances are you need to fiddle a bit.
F1 - Help - should give you some idea about what to do.
F4 - VGA and F6 - Other options will contain additional advise.

Unfortunately, without booting up one myself I cannot tell you what they will say. For me, it was a easy as setting a VGA option, as well as noapic, nolapic. And I had the same black screen after the initial boot screen.
