Looking for nvidia-xconfig: Kubuntu 9.04

Using Kubuntu 9.04

I'm trying to get my nvidia graphics card working properly:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] (rev 15)
according to Nvidia's website I need the nvidia-glx-71driver and I installed this
from the Ubuntu repository. My card is not configured properly. I tried to use
nvidia-settings, but it told me to configure with nvidia-xconfig.

I can't find the package nvidia-xconfig to install.
I have my repository on synaptic set to:
http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/ubuntu
I reloaded package information

I went to that website:
http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/ubuntu/po...vidia-xconfig/
and I found packages for nvidia-xconfig.
However I can't find the package when I search for it with Synaptic.
What is the pool directory?
Is nvidia-xconfig not included in Kubuntu 9.04?
If there is no nvidia-config for this distribution what would I use to
configure the nvidia card?

Thanks.

Hi, both the applications you mention are installed with the driver.

They are accessed via the command line (cli) interface as root for the whole system.

nvidia-settings may adjust the settings per user as user.

If the driver is not loading, check /etc/X11/xorg.conf

look for these lines....yours may be different, but similar....
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    VendorName "GigaByte"
    BoardName "GigaByte GeForce 9800gt (GTX+)"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "DPMS"
    VideoRam 524288
    #Option "RenderAccel" "True"

EndSection
the entry may be vesa, vga, nv or similar,

to use the installed nVidia driver module change the line to read....

Code:
Driver "nvidia"
You need admin access(root) to save changes to this file.

Restart x to see the changes.

Now you may be able to use the apps that come with the driver to configure your graphics card.

Note! It is generally accepted to comment(#) unwanted lines so they are not read.

Inserting new lines makes it easier to quickly edit files in cli mode, like with vi.

Hope this helps.

Regards Glenn

/usr/bin/nvidia-xconfig

is provided by the packages nvidia-glx-173,
nvidia-glx-180, nvidia-glx-96.

No 'nvidia-xconfig' is available, when using
nvidia-glx-71 , sorry.

.....
