Locking apps to current version in Synaptic

Will locking apps to their current version (such as nVidia drivers) cause Synaptic to avoid updating packages that would be broken by the locked application remaining the same when you click on the available upgrades button???

My issue is that the last time I ran Synaptic, it wanted to un-install my nVidia drivers,... and as far as I'm concerned,... OH NO YOU DON'T!!! I don't want to have to re-install my video drivers because a minor library needs a tweak...

Locking a package in Synaptic will be keep it from upgrading not from being removed if another packages upgrades and want to remove it.

Locking a package can also result in a lot of other broken packages if later down the road say a Gnome update needs a newer version of the package you have held. I ran into just that when KDE 3.5.5 came out, forgot I had locked a package months ago.

If you use apt on occasion you would also need to tell it to hold the package.
hold" is echo packagename hold|dpkg --set-selections ; revert with: echo packagename install|dpkg --set-selections
