Lock package upgrade from terminal


I only have shell access to one of my boxes so I need to know how I can I stop a package from being upgraded from the terminal.

You can use either dpkg or aptitude for this. You may need to install aptitude from the Ubuntu repos since recent versions of Ubuntu do not include aptitude on a standard Ubuntu install.

I would use the link supplied by tommcd but just use the dpkg directions. The only reason I say that is that dpkg is the base system and I don't like adding layers.

I will admit to not being that fond of aptitude too so I may be prejudiced.
