Loading fonts in Ubuntu 8.04

I am new to Linux. I am using Ubuntu 8.04

Could anybody help me install a ttf font. I need to install it so that I may view a particular website. The font is downloadable from the website. The webmaster is unable to help me as he has no knowledge of Linux.

Please help

Download the font, then run Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal and try the following
Code:
sudo mkdir /usr/share/fonts/myfonts
sudo cp somefile.ttf /usr/share/fonts/myfonts/.
cd /usr/share/fonts/myfonts
sudo mkfontdir && mkfontscale && fc-cache
Replace somefile.ttf with the actual ttf file name that you downloaded. Any applications you run after this will be able to use the new fonts. If you use KDE, you can use the Font installer in kcontrol instead of running the commands above.

Create a new directory in your home folder, called .fonts - the leading dot is important!

Copy your .ttf files into it, and they should then be available.

Thank You so much - it worked. Initially I could not do a copy paste - I do not know why. But all of a sudden it appeared in the .fonts folder and after rebooting it is now working.

Thanks

Glad it worked. I should have mentioned that you might have to reboot for the new fonts to be picked up.
