Live CD Won't load

Just downloaded Ubuntu and burned the ISO. Booted up off of the cd, the menu shows up. Choose Install/Start Ubuntu, shows the Ubuntu loading screen for a few minutes. Then it goes to a black screen then nothing. HD stops working, cd stops spinning. Computer seems to lock up, CTRL-ALT-DEL won't work, must press the hard reset button.

Tried it with the Graphical "Safe Mode" or whatever it was called. Same thing.

My specs:
AMD Athlon Xp 3000+
Abit NF7-S Rev 2 MB
2gb DDR400
2 SATA HD's (run by the onboard raid controller but not raided)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

My recommendation is to try using an Ubuntu "Alternate" distro CD. This uses a totally text-mode installer which is not as friendly, but does tend to cope better with hardware. The Alternate ISO is available on the normal Ubuntu download pages.

Go to http://www.ubuntu.com/products/GetUb...currentrelease and look at the "Other Installation Options" selection. That should help some.
