List of Supported Wireless Ethernet Devices

Is there a list somewhere of the supported WiFi Ethernet cards and WiFi USB adapters that Ubuntu supports "out of the box" ? Any one have an experience with Ubuntu installing a WiFi card automatically?

I need advice on what to go buy... something that Ubuntu automatically recognizes.

Thanks,
kellyg1

There is a list of support devices:

Get one supported by madwifi to avoid ndiswrapper issues:

Wireless card

I am running Ubuntu 6.10 on a Dell Latitude D810 with a Dell DualBand Wireless and I have to use Ndiswrapper to install the correct driver. I do know that Intel wireless card are generally right out of the box installations for most newer Linux Distros.

There is usually one here ... http://linux-wless.passys.nl/index.php ..., but it's been down for the last week or so.

I recommend a card with a Realtek chipset ... the rt2500 is particularly well supported.

Stay away from ndiswrapper and madwifi, too ... madwifi is quite Linux friendly, but it's not free, and, as such will never be simply built into standard kernels.
