Latin Language Support in Ubuntu

I installed support for the Latin language from within the language selector in Ubuntu 6.06. Now the following packages are installed:

language-pack-la
language-pack-la-base
language-pack-gnome-la
language-pack-gnome-la-base
language-pack-kde-la
language-pack-kde-la-base

However, when I check the box next to Latin in the language selector, it does not get ticked but something like a little minus sign appears inside it. Moreover, Latin does not appear in the default language menu. I have tried the procedure with other languages and it worked without problems. Do I need some secret trick to enable support for Latin?

Thx,
moo-cow
