laptop fan speed, temp issues
Im a new Linux convert so please bear with me if my Q? sounds dumb....
Is there anyway I can monitor (or control) my laptop fan speeds,temperature ? I have an AMD processor on a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop and really NEED an application which does that. Ive heard that Ubuntu/linux has an application that is built in and can be lauched.....any idea where it is and how it is lauched?

Also... how do i use the standby option...i dont see the option anywhere??

thanks for all the help guys.

You'll want to look into the 'lm-sensors' suite to evaluate your cpu temperature, mb temperature, voltages, etc.

am looking into it right now....but I was just wondering if the ACPI function would do the same? It does monitor cpu and disc levels but is there a way to get the cpu temperature in there too?

thank you!

Which acpi function are you referring to?

I have lm_sensor installed

$ sensors

returns:"No sensors found!" even though I have checked /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors with MODULE_0=i2c-i801 loaded

what else should I do?
