LAN browser fo ubuntu


is there any LAN browser for ubuntu.
with the already present file browser it asks for passwords,while there are no passwords for accessing the lan
also I cant browwse many windows PC's

any help????

The program you want is SMB4K. It is probably already installed on your sustem.

If this is what you are using (your post isn't quite clear on this) then you need to adjust the configuration.

Under Network: Sacn the Network. Use SMBClient.

Under Samba, Net, select RAP.

That should sort it out for you.

I've also used LinNeighborhood from the repositories with mixed success ... it generally works but only when sudo'ed

i have downloaded whole of the kde
so now i'm not having that much of prob.
smb works fine there
can somebody suggest of how i could see the ip address directly
--as the konquerer only gives the pc names
