Kubuntu - Unable To See Local Network (Windows) Shares

Just installed Kubuntu 20.04. Very pleased with it. But I cannot see/find any of the shares on the local network, my wife's PC, network hard drive -attached to our router.
Tried smb4k, samba, nothing works. I installed Virtualbox and installed Ubuntu with Gnome then Ubuntu Mate. Out of the box with no additional configuration, I click on Network and the Windows shares were there on both!
So how do I do this with KDE? Surely it can't be so difficult?
I prefer KDE, always have and have never had any issues like this before.
Anyone help? Before I install Mate or even XFCE, no way would I consider Gnome - even if someone paid me!

Are the Windows shares "Windows homegroup" (I think that's the term) shares?

If you they would be visible to only to other Windows devices.

Otherwise, smbclient is an excellent tool for troubleshooting this issue.

As I understand the question its more related to NETBIOS browsing / SMB version 1 being deprecated versus Windows homegroups.

One workaround is to manually connect to the CIFS shares in Dolphin via Add Network Folder via the URL window as smb://Windows_IP

I don't know the differences between the two file browsers except as posted Nautilus does and Dolphin does not show Windows computers.

Thanks for your replies.
I'll have a look at smbclient.
Despite all the stuff I can do, networking is and always has been a mystery to me, I seem to have a mental block when it comes to trying to get my head round it.
I've checked on my wife's PC, Win10, and my Kubuntu shared folder is visible and writeable into from her machine.
I'm dual booting with Kubuntu and Win10 and we can see/use shared folders each way using Windows. As far as I know Win10 doesn't use Homegroup any more.
I tried the Add Network Folder option but couldn't get it to work, which may well be down to my not entering the info correctly.
Just tried Xububtu in Virtualbox and the shares are there in the Thunar file manager as they are with Gnome and Mate.

UPDATE:
I managed to get the Add Network Folder option to work and can now access the share folder on my wife's PC. Seems a clunky way to do it, compared to Gnome etc, but at least it's a step forward.
I still can't find a way to access the hdd connected to our ASUS AC-68 router by USB 3.0. There's stuff online which involves editing /etc/fstab - https://www.haidongji.com/2017/12/05...-ac68u-router/
Is this safe? I don't want to screw up fstab.

Create a backup of your fstab...

You can enter an address on the URL line in Dolphin too. smb://address/share

If you can not access the router's share from Dolphin due to SMB version 1 then you can try via fstab using

//addresss/share /mount/point cifs vers=1.0,sec=ntlm,rest of options 0 0
