Kubuntu not sending sound via HDMI

KDE does not see HDMI as a sound device (my TV)

but Gnome does

All in Ubuntu 18.04

Any fix for this KDE problem?

You may need to configure it from command line. It is possible that the TV is not the primary "first" sound device which is what KDE graphical configuration works with. A good place to start. Section 4

You could try throwing the following at it:

Code:
pactl set-card-profile 0 output:hdmi-stereo
To reset back to the computer speakers:

Code:
pactl set-card-profile 0 output:analog-stereo

If it's not already installed, install the PulseAudio Volume Control:
Code:
$ sudo apt install pavucontrol-qt
Then run the application and go to the configure tab. You should be able to see and configure HDMI audio there. It's much easier than trying to do the same in KDE's System Settings.

ok thanks all - I just couldn't make it work and thought it should without going to the terminal

I am now on Mint Cinnamon - after many distros I am so happy to find one that works
