Those changes and maintenance options would apply to the running live CD environment, which doesn't sound like what you want to do at all.
If you want to make changes to a system that is damaged and installed on the HDD in the machine, you aren't going to be able to use the GUI for the most part. Those types of changes are generally going to be done on the command line, as you need to mount the system, locate the files you want to change, and manually reconfigure them. Or replace files, or whatever it is you need to do.
In the same vein, I would also suggest you look into a live CD that is more apt to actually repairing systems, such as
System Rescue CD. Such a distribution will give you more software that is focused on system repair, as well as not containing the relatively useless bloat of KDE (or any GUI, for that matter).
