I'm sure this is answered somewhere, but I can't figure the best way to search and not get a gadzillion results without the answer...

Running Kubuntu 6.10, pretty standard. In my desperate attempt to customize the heck out of it, I must've hit the wrong thing when editing the K menu. Now it's almost empty. Not knowing the file structure well enough, I can't figure where to go to either edit it manually or simply reset it to the default.

So... is there a simple way to reset the K menu to the default so I can try screwing it up again?

Just open up a terminal window an issue the following command.

sudo apt-get --fix-broken install

or to go into init level 3 after booting simply press ctrl+altF!-F6 and it will let you into a terminal.

Thanks! Will that change any of my other customizations, or just that darned K menu?

It shouldn't foul up you settings, just because is "safe" doesn't make me an advocate for not backing up your key information. In other words be safe and always make sure that you have multipule backups of you mission critical data.

rm ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu
