Kubuntu Help - Noob question

Hi. Just got kubuntu-6.06-beta-live-i386.iso

I have Asus Z71V Nvidia Go6600 2Ghz laptop

1) My video card fan is going wild - full speed as if it is Half Life 2- I guess Kubuntu has no video card power management? Or how can this be fixed?

2) Um, does it support WPA wireless encryption?

3)If 2 above do not work, maybe Ubuntu latest beta does all of that? And is Ubuntu better - faster, easier?

Please go easy, I am a noob.

Thanx.

For your number 2:
Do some searching on wpasupplicant. Put Ubuntu (or even Kubuntu, but remember this is newer) in the search as well, there might have been something about this on the Ubuntu wiki. You have to set it up manually (a couple of text files), so you'll need a text editor you can use as root (I like nano, and use this from the command line).
I use WPA on two laptops (different wireless cards) running Ubuntu, and it wasn't hard to set up once I found the right info.

I think you'll need to select the Universe repository for your package manager to find this (search for this as well). I remember the package being fairly well documented, so shouldn't be too hard, even for a noob (we all are, one way or another).

Another scraplet of advice - your question is actually two so it's best to use two threads to avoid confusion.

Am I right in thinking you're running a live-CD version of Kubuntu? This changes the story somewhat, and I have no idea whether your changes (installing wpasupplicant, for example) will be saved between boots. This would be a bit of a pain, I guess.

I suspect you will need to get your Nvidia power management from Nvidia themselves - I think they are not very open-source friendly, which is unfortunate. But again, some searching on t'internet is sure to yield plenty of advice.
