kubuntu edgy - pon not allowing reconnect after idle
I am running Kubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 and was on a LAN connection, but had to switch to dialup temporarily, so I configured pon to connect to my isp. I can connect fine with pon on a fresh boot into ubuntu. If I issue poff, after a limited amount of idle time, with a locked session it seems to seize up my ability to pon again.
I log back into my session and open a shell. I then issue $pon isp. It dials, but this is what I am getting in my system logs. It's alarming and shutting down.

Any help trying to figure this out would be greatly appreciated. The same thing occurs when using kppp, which I can only get to work when I run as sudo kppp. Additionally, I have to recreate the symbolic link for modem each time I boot as well, which is frustrating, which is mostly the reason for using pon.
thanks.

well, it's failing when issuing the ATZ (reset from voice mode). seems like it's not receiving the data tone. are you sure that the number you are dialing (863-0005) is infact the ISP's dialin nuber (not, for example, their main number (lol)) or the wrong number?
good luck

Yes I am positive it is the correct number, as stated in my previous post, that "I can connect fine with pon on a fresh boot into ubuntu" Anytime after that instance however I can not connect. I can get a dialtone, it will dial the number, you can hear the modem screeching data signal and then poof, no connection, then it will die. If I try the same thing with KPPP, it will at least retry, but will fail as many times as I will let it fail. Laughing... Its not what I would call a priority issue, but dogon, its driving me crazy trying to figure out why it will not connect after the first connection. The only way that I have found so far to fix this issue is to completely reboot my kubuntu Box.
Remember, it "Will connect" the first connection, and I can surf the internet, email etc, so I know I have a solid connection.
