Kubuntu does not recognize usb device (Polar GPS watch)

I am trying to connect my Polar RC3 GPS to my laptop with Kubuntu. It does not connect, however it is charging. In the systemlog, it says:

[ 582.857326] usb 6-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0da4, idProduct=0006
[ 582.857329] usb 6-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 582.857331] usb 6-1: Product: Polar RC3 GPS

checking bus 6, device 26: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb6/6-1"
bus: 6, device: 26 was not an MTP device
[ 599.068495] usb 6-1: USB disconnect, device number 26

Anyone know what to do?

It recognises it just fine -- you can see for yourself that the details are explained. Unfortunately the manufacturer doesn't bother to make it Linux compatible so your best bet is to use it with Windows as either dual-boot or in a virtual machine. However, if you're willing to put some time in some clever people seem to have some ideas about getting it working under Linux (I have not tried any of these links as I do not own the product so try at your own risk):
