kubuntu: codecs for amarok and kaffeine
Hi, I realize this question has been asked before, but I have followed a lot of instructions with no luck.
I can't get mp3's to play in Amarok or Kaffeine. I have downloaded and installed the codecs:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-gl gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse libxine-extracodecs w32codecs
I can play ogg and wma, but no mp3. I can get it to work in XMMS though.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I had this exact same problem, never really did figure it out. I downloaded XMMS, and it played my MP3's just fine...

I was actually just checking, and indeed, my other audio programs are playing MP3's now(I usually just play XMMS). You could try installing audio/video codecs via Automatix. I did do that, when having trouble with WMA files, and I think thats probably what got MP3's working on my other music programs.

Note, some have reported having problems with Automatix, causing problems with the OS, etc. I've used it with Dapper, and have used it with Edgy, with zero problems...

Thanks IGF, I tried using Automatix but it wouldn't install for me. I solved the problem though, by installing the following:
Upgraded the following packages:
libxine-main1 (1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.2) to 1.1.2+repacked1-0ubuntu3
Installed the following packages:
libxine1 (1.1.2+repacked1-0ubuntu3)
Looks like it's ok now...mp3 (and other formats) work on both amaroK and Kaffeine. Good thing too...I have spent too much time on this. =P
