Kubuntu 8.10 update

Hi All,
I've just spent ages setting up Kubuntu 8.10 and got it the way I wanted. After that I was offered all the updates - 293MB, so I went for it. All the updates were got and installed. I was then asked to reboot which I did. All I got was the Konsol prompt, hiccup I thought so typed Startx. All I got was a message saying none of my files were found and was aborting. Great!!! Now what. I've been using (K)Ubuntu for years and now this, it really sucks, I'm back to Winblows now. Any suggestions, apart from never touching (K)Ubuntu again?

At what stage do you find the message? At grub (boot menu) or after that?

Could you post exact (or atleast more accurate) message that you get?

update

Thanks rizwanrafique,
Everything loaded up fine except for the Desktop. I got to the prompt and typed in startx thinking it was a hiccup. That started but then came up with a small box and a message saying xsession files could not be found and my login name files could not be found. All there was was an Abort button which took me back to the prompt.
Since then I have found that there have been many complaints about Ubuntu using KDE, so I have gone back to Gnome and all is well (at the moment).
I know I didn't wait long for an answer but I needed to get up and running again without XP. It's the first time I'd used KDE for many years, other versions had no problems. Maybe, just maybe, I might try 9.04 with KDE 4.2.
Thanks again for your help.
