My bad......but that is literally what it says:confused: ;
loading essential drivers...ok mounting root...............ok preconfiguring networking...ok preconfiguring /etc/modules.ok loading preseeds file.......ok setting up init.............ok . . configuring accessibility options.ok disabling update notifier...ok configuring power management.ok configuring some drivers.....ok here it freezes for a while and then takes me to blinking underscore:cry: |
Try hitting ctrl-alt-F1 while it's loading, or maybe ctrl-alt-F8 - you might get a bit more info.
You can provide some options when the kernel loads, that might get you out of trouble. Here are some: acpi=off noapic nolapic If you hit 'e' when grub starts (before the kernel boots) you can edit the line that selects your kernel, and add one or more of these options to the 'kernel' line. And while you're there, remove the 'splash' and 'quiet' options, so you get more information while it boots. But the key will be the hardware - what are you running it on? |
Freezing on LiveCD attempts
I'm having the exact same problem as SLP. Freezing at the exact same point when I'm trying to run the LiveCD (PC currently only has WinXP installed)
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ SiS 760 onboard vid 512MB RAM The install proceeds fine on an older machine I have at work, so the installation medium is not the issue. Several other forums indicate that tinkering with the boot params pertaining to video will help....I've tried things like boot: live noapic nolapic vga=771 Have also tried the 'safe graphics mode' option from the menu and have tried changing resolution via the F? key. No matter what, it keeps freezing at the same point (after 'configuring some drivers...ok' and then dumps me to a blank screen with blinking cursor. I can't seem to ctrl-alt-F? to get console windows either. Stumped, and very frustrated. Help......? |
I don't mean to sound like a doting mother, but I've had a similar experience, and it was a corrupt liveCD have you run the check disk after burning it?

I compared checksums on the .iso(s) that I downloaded (all were fine), and burned the CD 3 different times (thinking it was a bad burn), with both DVD Decryptor and Nero 6. When I DO run the disk check from the Ubuntu Live CD menu, there are 4-5 checks that fail (things like failed checks on .ico and .bmp files?), but the LiveCD ran fine on a machine at work, and on my IBM Thikpad T41 laptop from the same CD media.
I have since tried with the Suse 10.1 LiveCD and ran into similar problems, though with Suse, I specified '3' as a boot option for the kernel, which dumped me to run-level 3 (no X), and I was able to make a couple changes to xorg.conf to get X running successfully (somewhat). Haven't figured out how to boot Dapper's Live CD to runlevel 3 yet. Again though, the Dapper LiveCD ran fine on a laptop and another desktop PC. I think the prob is my SiS 760 onboard vid, and I THINK there's a fix for it, but I can't get to runlevel 3 to do it when just using the LiveCD (not ready to do a full install yet, as I'm still evaluating). Cheers. David |
I have the same problem with an apple e-mac. In the boot manager I ran check and got a mismatch in the ./casper/filesystem.sqashfs file. Everything else was o.k. This was the edubuntu cd that I downloaded from the web site.

I have a similar problem:
When activating "Start or install Kubuntu" it freezes at the exact same step. I tried "Start Kubuntu in safe graphics mode", but it turned off my monitor(LCD) I tried it with a CRT monitor, but the same thing happened. My machine is AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with Ati RADEON X700 pro video card and 1GB RAM. |
