Kubuntu 5.04 locking up upon completion of X windows loading

I installed Kubuntu 5.04 last night, the install completed without a hitch. When I boot all the modules report loaded as [OK]and KDE launches it gets to the screen that states "KDE is up and running" then the system just freezes. I never actually see the desktop, I get an outline of the taskbar and the loading screen just stops. I hate to say it but the only way get life back is to hold the power button for 5 seconds.

I have a compaq presario V2000 laptop, 512MB RAM with 16GB of disk comitted and 768MB of swap, X86_64 ISO install was the platform I selected since this is a Turion64 ML-32.

I am not familir with the command line so much or I would provide a log file, but I am not familar too much with this distro either.

Thanks in advance for any help!

CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE does not respond. The system simply locks and does not respond to anything but a 5 second hold of the power button. It appears from the other posts in other threads that nobody has a Turion64 running a Linux distro at this point. I may need to just be paitent and wait for a lil more evolution. However, no that I am up to 2GB RAM I'll be ready

Thanks for the post
