Kubuntu 20.04 - System never wakes up after suspend / sleep

Hi everyone

I've been using Linux (mostly Ubuntu and its derivatives) for a while now. Nothing specific, just daily use. Things worked pretty well for me as I am able to find most stuff I needed fairly easily by searching.

A couple of months ago I started learning a bit of coding and felt the need to put my system to sleep (never actually it before, shutdown was always my preference) for a short while for taking a break.

As soon as I gave the suspend command, the screen turned off while the computer remained on. All fans spinning as usual. I tried to wake the screen up, no response. Tried wired keyboard, wired mouse, physical power button, but to no effect.

Looked around on the internet, found very little information regarding similar situation. Tried a few things though, still no effect.

Also, just to test the hardware, I dual-booted with Windows 10, sleep works as intended. Screen turns off, all fans spin down, all lights off and also wakes up using wireless keyboard or mouse.

Some hardware details of the machine are as below:
Motherboard - (MSI) AMD 990FXA
Processor - AMD FX 8320
Graphics - (MSI) AMD Radeon R9 280X

First time posting a question here, please correct me if I am not following any rules.

Will appreciate suggestions.

Thanks
Jaspreet
