Kubunto 12.10 Wireless issue

Maybe I should post this in the wireless forum, but since I just encountered it after upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 I thought I'd post it here and see if anyone else has encountered it. I have an HP laptop that dual boots Win7 and Kubuntu 12.10. While running 12.04 I encountered no wireless problems with the internal Realtek RTL8188CE wireless N adaptor. Since upgrading, connections to the same router used with 12.04 are spotty, performance abysmal and many times, even though the wireless manager shows the unit connected, it won't download e-mail or load web pages. Realtek has a driver on its web page but it is from last May so I'm not sure it will help. I'm going to try it, but if it doesn't help I guess I'll just restore the backup I made before upgrading. The wireless works fine in windows. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. If I discover a fix I'll post it.
