keyboard and touchpad lag on PCG-FXA47 (kubuntu 6.10)

Hi folks,

I just installed kubuntu 6.10 on my Sony Vaio PCG-FXA47. I have the following problem: when I move my finger across the touchpad, the cursor follows but it is kind of jumpy; it lags behind and does not move smoothly. Something similar is happening to whatever I key in. Some times the characters wouldn't even show up after I hit a key, so I have to hit it twice or more. This mouse and keyboard behavior is rather annoying!!! I cannot stand to work on a computer like that!
I have trying disabling apic, lapic, acpi, etc. but no luck...
I also looked at top output, but nothing is eating up my memory.
By the way, it is happening both, in console mode and graphics mode.

Any leads? You gurus out there... please?

Regards,
Fred
