kernel problems
I installed Ubu 13.04, but was unhappy, so I thought I'd go back to 12.04
I am having major problems. The newer kernels, above 3.2 will not boot. What is the difference between 3.2.something.pae, which is what I had, and 3.5.something.generic Shouldn't generic work on my Toshiba laptop just as well?? What is pae?? |
PAE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension
Linux The Linux kernel includes full PAE mode support starting with version 2.3.23,[16] enabling access of up to 64 GB of memory on 32-bit machines. A PAE-enabled Linux kernel requires that the CPU also support PAE. |
Actually the ending is .generic.pae
But the newer kernels just say .generic And they don't seem to want to work. Slowly I'm thinking, this laptop is sick inside. But I can load Fedora 18 with new kernels no problem. |
