kernel panic on homemade live disk

Trying to make a 64 bit AMD Windows box into a dual boot machine with Kubuntu 6.10. I have burned the CD image [ 695MB ] onto both a CD and DVD, and both run briefly, then report a kernel panic.

"Kernel panic -- not syncing; IO-APIC timer doesn't work: Try using the 'noapic' kernel parameter."

Some details about the machine I am using: though it has an internal RAID5 with Windows made with three SATA drives, I have installed a fourth, blank SATA drive on which I will install Kubuntu. It is a dual core AMD 64 with an internal DVD burner. I am using Infrarecord to burn the iso image.

Any suggestions?

thx ## rasta

Did you try using the noapic kernel parameter as it suggests?

It depends on the bootloader you use…
