I just upgraded to KDE 4.1 and I changed to a new Icon theme with no problems, but I would like to make some small changes. The problem Im running into is the icon isnt changed globally. So when I right click, go to properties and change the icon, it sill will show up on the taskbar with the old icon. Hope this makes sense.

Yeah, all those settings do is change the icon for that link/shortcut. What (I guess) you need to do is find the icon pack and actually change the image there.

Mine are all in "/usr/share/icons" under KDE4.1.1.

Note that I think icons are cached, so you may not see an immediate global change. The cache might be under "/var/tmp/kdecache-$USERNAME", I believe it was a Google Summer of Code project in KDE4.

If you're planning on changing a lot of icons you could perhaps copy an icon-pack, rename it and change your icons to make a new pack. That pack could be kept for reinstallation then.
